Daily Itinerary:

DAY 1
  • The adventure begins!
  • You will be transported to Chicago's O'Hare airport for your flight to Frankfurt, Germany.
DAY 2
  • Transfer from the Frankfurt airport to the scenic Rhine River area
  • Enjoy a welcome dinner this evening
  • Overnight at Lindenwirt in Reudesheim or Dorint Hotel in Wiesbaden. (D)
DAY 3 
  • This morning, board a white steamer for your cruise on the Rhine River, concluding in the picturesque wine village of St. Goar
  • Travel to Heidelberg, home of Germany's oldest university, founded in 1386
  • From Heidelberg, drive south into the Black Forest
  • Overnight at Silberkoenig hotel in the Black Forest region. Silberkoenig Hotel, Germany (B,D)
DAY 4
  • Cross the border into Switzerland for a stop in Schaffhausen, home of Europe's largest waterfalls
  • Travel along Lake Constance to village of Oberammergau
  • Overnight for the next two nights in Oberammergau. Lodging will be assigned by the Passion Play office. (B,D)
DAY 5
  • This morning is free to explore Oberammergau
  • You may choose to do some shopping or check out the great woodcarving tradition of the village
  • After lunch, experience history first-hand and attend the Passion Play, performed every 10 years since 1634. (B,D)
DAY 6
  • Visit the monastery of Ettal and try the "Kloster Liqueur" distilled by the monks
  • Stop at Neuschwanstein Castle, the inspiration for Disney's Cinderella castle
  • Continue on to Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol and two-time site of the Olympic winter games
  • Overnight at hotel Grauer Baer in Innsbruck for the next two nights. hotel Grauer Baer, Innsbruck (B,D)

DAY 7
  • Take a walking tour of Innsbruck's medieval quarter, including old houses with Gothic arcades, the Golden Roof, the Imperial Palace and the Court Church
  • This evening, enjoy a Tyrolean Folklore Show, with yodeling, dancing and music.  hotel Grauer Baer, Innsbruck (B,D)
DAY 8
  • Travel through the Alps to Berchtesgaden
  • Board a local bus to be taken to the summit of Kehlstein mountain, better known as the Eagles Nest, the former retreat of Hitler
  • Continue to Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart
  • Overnight at Hotel Untersberg in the Salzburg area for the next two nights. Hotel Untersberg, Salzburg. (B,D)
DAY 9
  • A local guide will join you for a walking tour of Salzburg
  • See the Abbey of St. Peter, the Archbishop's residence, the Cathedral, the Festival Playhouse and Mozart's birth house
  • The afternoon is free for you to explore Salzburg
  • Enjoy "Dinner with Mozart" tonight in the Baroque Hall of St. Peters monastery. Hotel Untersberg, Salzburg. (B,D)

DAY 10

  • Travel to Prien and take a boat to the island of Herrenchiemsee to see a King Ludwig palace
  • Return to Prien and continue towards Munich
  • Overnight for the next two nights at Parkhotel in the Bavarian town of Erding, just outside of Munich. Parkhotel, Erding. (B,D)
DAY 11
  • Enjoy a day of sightseeing in Munich, the capital of Bavaria
  • Stop at Nymphenburg Palace, the former summer residence of the royal Bavarian family
  • Then head to the Olympic Complex, site of the 1972 summer Olympics
  • See the famous landmarks of Munich, including the student district of Schwabing, Maximilianstrasse, Koenigsplatz and the Marienplatz
  • The tour of Munich will conclude at the Oktoberfest grounds
  • You may choose to join the fun of the festival, or alternatively, continue to explore the city on your own. Parkhotel, Erding. (B)
DAY 12
  • Transfer to the Munich airport for your flight to Chicago
  • Upon disembarking from the plane at Chicago O’Hare Airport, you will be greeted by your transfer driver for your return trip home
  • Welcome Home! You return home with wonderful memories, unique personal photos and tales of your adventure to share with family and friends. (B)
