A train ride into autumn beauty

Daily Itinerary:

DAY 1 Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and close neighbor, Canada, are our destinations as we head north. The scenery changes as we enter the pine forests of Michigan. This evening we will be in “The Heart of the North”. Dinner is included this evening. Hampton Inn - Gaylord, MI (D)

DAY 2 After our breakfast we depart and travel to Mackinaw City to board a comfortable ferry for Mackinac Island. Upon arrival we will enjoy a narrated tour of the island from our charming horse drawn carriage. We travel through the colorful State Park and stop at Arch Rock. Our carriage tour ends at The Grand Hotel. Here we experience their “Grand Buffet.” We can explore this historic hotel before transferring back to Main Street for some free time to shop. We then reboard the ferry to travel back to the mainland. We travel thru the upper peninsula of Michigan to our home for the next two nights in Canada. This evening is free to enjoy the gaming facility of the Sault OLG Casino, just 2 blocks from our hotel, or enjoy a restaurant close to the hotel. Holiday Inn Express - Sault Ste. DAY 3 This morning, welcome aboard one of the most popular train excursions in North America, the Algoma Railroad. This one day wilderness excursion will take us 114 miles north of Sault Ste. Marie, over towering trestles, alongside pristine northern lakes and rivers, through the awesome granite rock formations and mixed forests. Just when we thought we had seen it all, we’ll coast 500 feet down to the floor of the Agawa Canyon where we have lunch.There will be plenty to photograph during this excursion so be sure to pack your camera. The train returns late this afternoon back to Sault Ste. Marie. Dinner is included this evening. Holiday Inn Express - Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada (DCB, L, D)

DAY 4 We depart for home, arriving late this afternoon. (DCB)
